My name is Stefanie Drake Burford, and I am asking for your support as I seek re-election to the Polk County Commission.
I moved to Polk County in early 2002, eventually opening my own law firm in 2005. What many people don't know is that my mother was born in Cedartown, and my grandmother grew up in Cedartown on Noyes Street. She was a graduate of CHS. I have roots in Polk County, and chose to make Polk County my home more than 13 years ago.
As a business owner, I understand the importance of getting a job done on time and on budget. I also understand the importance of effective management of resources, and fighting for the best interests of those who look to you for representation.
I have proudly served as a Polk County Commissioner since January 1, 2013, and thank you for your support and vote then and now as I seek re-election. I was appointed Chairman when Billy Croker passed away in 2015, and was reappointed as Chairman by my fellow Board members in January 2016. I have greatly appreciated the opportunity to serve our Board as Chairman, and believe that we have made excellent progress during my term. We have also streamlined and re-written many of our Ordinances, which just as an example, will welcome major events to into the County.
If re-elected Polk County Commissioner, I will continue to focus on what is best for Polk County and its citizens. This means being fiscally responsible with our County's revenues and budget, while working with other Commissioners, County officials, and local and non-local business leaders to create a welcoming environment for new events and businesses, parks, recreation, and improved quality of life. This, among other things, will result in the creation of jobs, positive growth, prosperity, and generation of revenue outside of taxation. In addition, by continuing to move forward and improve in these areas, we will encourage young professionals and hometown college graduates to return to Polk County and make a life here.
I also understand that not only do these plans have a positive impact on Polk County and its economy, but also serve to keep taxes as low as possible.
I am a graduate of the Polk County Chamber of Commerce/Development Authority Leadership Polk XV. I am also a member of the State Bar of Georgia, a neutral Mediator registered with the State of Georgia, and past President and Treasurer of the Tallapoosa Bar Association. I am Chairman of the Public Safety Committee, Vice-Chairman of the Sara Hightower Regional Library Board of Trustees, and a prosecutor in the Municipal Court of Cedartown. I am married to Chuck Burford, who is a CPA. We make our home in historic Rockmart, along with our daughter.
Thank you for visiting my site, and taking the time to learn more about me. In doing so, you have shown that you also care about Polk County and our citizens.
